This oil on canvas was painted by Félix Lafuente, a painter from Huesca. It depicts a view of a street called Coso Bajo in Huesca, in a bright and bold urban landscape with quick, loose brushstrokes similar to the techniques of the Impressionists. In 1893, Lafuente returned to the capital of Huesca province after spending time outside the city, including studying at the School of Arts and Crafts (Escuela de Artes y Oficios) in Madrid. Between 1893 and 1904, Lafuente remained in Huesca as a teacher of drawing at the Institute of Secondary Education. He combined this with giving drawing and painting classes at the old Imperial College of Santiago (Colegio Imperial de Santiago), which has now been converted into a museum. He also had another studio in the Plaza de San Pedro (San Pedro Square). During this period, he painted a series of landscapes based around the city of Huesca, its surrounding areas, and the Pyrenees.
