Coulee Dam, Wash. Principal engineering structure of the Bureau of Reclamation irrigation and power project in the Columbia River Basin here is the Grand Coulee Dam. Measuring 4173 feet long, and 500 feet wide at the base, the spillway is half as wide and twice as high as Niagara. The structure contains ten and a half million cubic yards of concrete. Now being installed in the dam's pumping station are two 65,000 horsepower motors, designed by GE. The motors will drive the worlds largest pumps, each of which will be capable of pumping 50 tons of water per second
