The velvet bodice of this dress from Salamanca stands out for the eye-catching embroidery on the cuffs, done in metallic thread. The piece known as the “dengue” is appreciated over it, which in this case is of an original purple colour, as well as an embroidered cambric scarf. The skirts are extraordinarily decorated with multi-coloured beads and sequins, just like the apron, which also has a silk frill. The costume of the Salamancan country-lass or “charro” is one of the most ornamented of the entire Iberian Peninsula, to the extent that the adjective “charro” has become synonymous in Spanish of gaudiness and decorative profusion.
