The Geiger counter, an instrument invented in 1913, measures the environment radioactivity. After the Fukushima disaster, this instrument got significantly spread in Japan. By connecting mobile phones it was possible for everyone to check the radiations’ levels in Japan and spread via Internet the collected data: an important example, for society and for research, of participatory science.
