Binette Schroeder, winner of the BIB Golden Apple in 1969 for Lupinchen and in 1997, German Youth Literature Prize, Special Prize for her complete works, is one of Germany’s representative picture book artists. Influenced by surrealism, Schroeder carefully depicts fantastic worlds using a rich color pallet. Crocodile, Crocodile is a surreal picture book about a crocodile, who hears of a crocodile shop in Paris and travels there, only to learn that the shop, in fact, sells crocodile leather goods. Shocked by the discovery, he swallows the shopkeeper in a single gulp. It is an outlandish story expressed through enigmatically quiet pictures.
