Wang Yachen, art name Yunyin. He was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. At 18 he went to Shanghai where he met Liu Haisu and together they founded the Shanghai Fine Art School. Been admitted into the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1916, he graduated in 1921 and came back to the Shanghai Fine Art School as the director of teaching affairs. Since 1928, he traveled in Europe. In 1931 he returned to China and held solo of his works created in Europe. He founded the Shanghai Xihua Private Art School. In 1947 he went to US and was invited to lecture on traditional Chinese painting of flowers, birds, fishes and insects at Yale, Harvard, and Columbia Universities. He was a professor and director in Shanghai Fine Art School and shanghai Xinhua Private Art School, president in Xinhua Normal School of Fine Arts and also a columnist for a newspaper ShiShiXinBao under their XueDeng section. He published over 200 articles.
