    Col. Sec. In answer to memorial from the merchants etc here praying the establishment of a Supreme Court and appointment of a Resident Judge. Colonial Secretary's office; Sydney, 26th June 1840. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 6th instant, no, 440, enclosing a memorial from a number of the inhabitants of the District of Port Phillip, praying the establishment of a Supreme Court at that place, and the appointment of a resident judge. In reply, I am directed by the Governor to inform you, that a Bill will very shortly be laid before (bottom corner) His Honor C.J. La Trobe Esq Superintendant Port Phillip
