These works were commissioned and purchased by Pope Pius VII to replace the art works which had been plundered by Napoleon. The works found in the Gipsoteca are the models of the marbles found in the Vatican Museums. Creugas’ figure shows nobility of spirit and courage and presents his whole body to the enemy with pride and surety.
