From London Midland & Scottish Railway Collection. Crewe works hospital, 1913
A ward in the London & North Western Railway's cottage hospital at Crewe works. The company provided this hospital for its workers and their families.
Accidents in the railway works were common and as well as infectious diseases the hospital staff dealt with broken limbs, trapped fingers and even amputations.
The LNWR dominated life in Crewe, and the company crest was seen everywhere, even on the hospital blankets.
