Barela (born 1900 Bisbee, Arizona; died 1964 Taos, New Mexico) may have gotten his idea for this articulated Christ from the Cristo Entierro figures which are displayed in coffins and carried in Good Friday processions. Barela’s Cristo incorporates an upright, more vigorous, interpretation. Juniper. Anonymous gift in honor of Virginia and Edward Lujan.
