The small pectoral cross with picture of Christ was found in 1954 during excavations at the southern shore of the former Reichenstraße channel in the area of the shore market. Beside the cruciform brooch from the Cathedral Square (Domplatz) the pendant is one of the oldest records for Christian faith in Hamburg. As with the brooch, the small cross could have its origins in the Rhine-Main area as well.
