In a newspaper letters column, 'Voor onze Dames' [For Our Ladies], published in the Amsterdam paper Het Nieuws van den Dag, problems about choosing what costumes to wear were regularly discussed. The date of this dress (between 1925 and 1928) is consistent with the tremendous crossword puzzle mania that invaded the Netherlands from America after 1925.
