Title: Crowning with Thorns
Creator: Master VEA/Mojster VEA
Location Created: Ptuj castle, Ptuj Ormož Regional Museum
Physical Dimensions: w61 x h37,5 cm
Long Description: "This double-sided panel was once part of a larger altarpiece. Originally, it flanked the winged altarpiece that had its wings closed on workdays, whereas on festive days they were open thus revealing the statues inside the altar shrine. The altar was dedicated to St. Magdalene. The workdays side of the panel depicts Christ Carrying the Cross and on the festive side there is a scene of the Crowning with Thorns on gilt background.
The altar is attributed to the master of German Allgäu, also named Master VEA as these initials appear repeatedly on the bordering of the garments." (dr. Polona Vidmar)
