Sano Ciampanti's picture preserved in Lucca in the National Museum of Villa Guinigi represents the Pauline teaching in an exceptionally vivid way. In a highly dramatic framing, we find Jesus dying on the cross stripped of his garments, and at his feet two brothers completely clothed: he has stripped himself to clothe them, to such an extent that they are not visible except for the holes in the hood for their eyes, intent on contemplating their Lord face to face.
