The image of Christ crucified is a symbolic scene because it evokes sacrifice, redemption and salvation of human beings. The island of Chiloe received an artistic impulse due to the teaching of Jesuit priests. Later, sculpture carving became anonymous and its practice transmitted directly from fathers to sons.
