View of the crypt in the Duomo of Lecce, with its forest of 92 plain-shafted monolithic columns made of local stone, surmounted by variously decorated capitals, dating back to the first decades of the sixteenth century.
The floor is made of glazed maiolica decorated with geometric and floral patterns.
Besides the main altar, there are four lateral altars, one of which hosts the eighteenth-century painting depicting the "Encounter of the Virgin with Saint Elizabeth": they are both pregnant and Saint Joseph and Saint Zechariah, respectively, stand behind them.
