Cup

Complete palm cup of pale olive coloured glass. Within the glass can be seen large and small air bubbles, and distinct blowing spirals. The surface is somewhat decayed, with remaining patches of iridescence, brown in colour. The rim is a simple outward folded base has a pontil mark. Cracked and damaged with quite a lot of wear visible on the rim. (Harden Class X,ii,b,5).
The cup was excavated in August 1771, grave 205 of the Kingston Barrow group in Kent and was found with other grave good including the Kingston Brooch (M6226), a sheet-gold pendant with a central repoussé boss surrounded by concentric zones of stamped circles (M6231), two silver bow brooches with incised decoration along the shaft which is coiled to form a spring (M6234 & M6235) an iron chatelaine, remains of a wooden box with iron fittings (M6232), a pottery vessel, a bronze hanging-bowl with enamelled escutcheons and print, and a two-handled bronze pan with trivet.
