The rhinoceros horn cups were among the most desirable objects of the European collectors for their Wonder Rooms, not only because of the exoticism of the material - to which thaumaturgical and talismatic properties were attributed - but also because they were usually mounted in precious metals. The MNAA horn cup, gold filigree mounted and enriched by small Indian rubies, is one of the richest and oldest examples known to date.
