Museum Gipsoteca Antonio Canova

Museum Gipsoteca Antonio Canova
Possagno, Italy

It is a marble similar to that of 1803 found at the Hermitage Museum. It may be that it was copied from the plaster found in the Gipsoteca. Psyche has an attitude of nice innocence and holds Cupid’s hand on which a butterfly symbolizing the soul is resting. Cupid moves his arm along the goddess’ neck and tenderly places his cheek on her shoulder.
