Documented sample cups were numbered with closures that allowed samples to be identified and kept separate from one another. These cups were grouped into dispensers which provided easy access for the astronauts. Although documented sample containers of several different configurations were used on the Apollo missions, two basic shapes described most, cup-shaped and flat rectangular. The cup-shaped bags came in sets of 35 (used on the Apollo 12 and Apollo 14 missions) and 48 (used on the Apollo 17 mission). This set of cup-shaped bags was transferred to the Smithsonian in 1974.
