Annette grew up along the Murray River, and has raised her children here too. With the seasons the river peaks, floods and recedes, offering refreshment and rejuvenation. Omnipresent in daily life, the river plays host to family time, leisure time and alone time. Since losing her teenage daughter to suicide in 2011, the specialness of the river and its role as a metaphor for life is stronger than ever, offering a place of refreshing mindfulness and support – going with the current. A passionate and committed advocate for mental health awareness and support, Annette Baker was a finalist in the inaugural Australian Mental Health Prize, 2016.
