This print by Currier and Ives, printed in 1869, projects what would happen in society if women were to win the vote and take over. One man, scolded by his strident wife, must assume the role as principal caregiver of the baby. Other women are smoking and acting in a generally dissolute manner. The entire picture reinforces a popular belief on the part of many men of the period that granting women the right to vote would expose them to the corrupting forces of society. Victoria Woodhull was at times imaged in the same fashion.
