Yi Gwang-sa (1705-1777) developed a style of Korean calligraphy based on the works of the Chinese calligrapher Wang His-chih (307-365). Yi believed that inner energy and vitality were more important than artistic elegance, a philosophy that was greatly appreciated by scholars and calligraphers of his time.
