Curtain Wall

English Heritage

English Heritage
United Kingdom

By 1136, the stone curtain wall had been constructed on top of the massive earth banks and mound of the Norman castle. From the wall-walk along the top of the walls there are good views outwards which emphasize the central and dominating position of the castle within the Isle of Wight. It is also possible to get a good impression from here of the artillery fortress added around the medieval castle between 1597 and 1602.
