This cutlass was owned by George Washington. The blade face is engraved with the monogram "G.W." beneath a crown and floral designs. The maker's mark appears on both sides of the blade, but is undecipherable. This was originally a two-edged weapon and was worn by Washington when inspecting his troops. At a later date, one edge was cut into a "saw-tooth".
