This jacket is made from merino shawl wool, handwoven and screen printed with Bramble Rose print, brass mirrors, gota work and habotai silk lining. The brass 'mirrors' are set onto the wool, and stitched in with a crochet stitch of varying colours. Seams are finished with a frayed taffeta bias strip. Gota is a narrow ribbon woven on looms with a cotton warp and metal weft, originally real gold and silver. It uses a yarn that is pressed and rolled to flatten and polish it, before it is heat pressed or crimped to add relief patterns. Habotai is a plain weave silk fabric, soft and lightweight. It is also known as China silk.
