Cycladic female figurine from a group

This fragmentary figurine belonged once to a group of two figures holding each other from the shoulders. This is suggested both by the broken left arm which extends to the left and by the surviving traces of an arm spanning the back of the figurine and resting on its right shoulder. The latter arm obviously belonged to the now lost second figure. There are 11 examples of this type of "special figurines", all fragmentary. Whenever the sex is indicated this is always female. Some examples preserve part of the flat base on which the two figures stood. On typological terms, the figurine belongs to the Spedos variety of the canonical type and is, thus, dated to the Early Cycladic II period.
