Where operational activities related to passenger and freight transport are more visible and known to the general public, there were departments dedicated to the company's internal services and employee support. It is in this context that rolling stock was created to support these corporate functions.
An example of the companies' internal management policies was the use of specific trains to provide particular services, such as payments along the network. The treasurer regularly travelled in payment saloons to pay salaries to staff at stations, along the line and at level crossings. These trips took several days and the employees responsible slept on the premises. This saloon, built in 1913, belonged to the Southern and South-eastern State Railways. In addition to the service desk, it is divided into two accommodation and bathroom compartments. The windows have the characteristic of an interior sheet metal blind, protecting against theft or vandalism.
