This large-sized painting shows Villa San Marco located on the slopes of Mount ‘Catalfano’, which is the promontory that marks off the gulf of Palermo to the east, opposite Mount Pellegrino. This is a location Lojacono repeatedly depicted in his production from 1865 to 1870. The painting stands out for the deep realistic investigation and careful representation of the details, which contribute to the general construction of a landscape painted in bright colours and flooded with a warm and natural light. The latter is one of the distinctive features of the artist who was nicknamed as the ‘sun thief’.
