My dear Mr. Portinari:
We are delighted to know that you have accepted the Honorary Professional Membership in our Society, and that you believe with us that we artists can make a real contribution to world peace by drawing closer together. We trust that you will not forget that we want very much to see photographs of your latest works. We have the book published by the Museum of Modern Art, and have borrowed slides for lectures from the Museum and from the Library of Congress.
I personally had the pleasure of seeing three of your paintings in the house of Mrs. Carleton Sprague Smith, who asks to be remembered to you. I am leaving next week for a trip to the West Coast of South America. Another year, I hope to come to Brazil. At present, I am doing some decorations on the Moore-McCormick Liner the “Brazil” which should be in commission again by the late summer, and perhaps I will be able to make a trip on her in the near future.
Again welcoming you into our Society, I am
Sincerely yours,
Hildreth Meière
President
