Daehan Ceramics artists painted various Korean customs and landscapes onto ceramics, which were designed to be used as ornaments or exported. They mainly painted people playing neolttwigi (a game played on traditional Korean seesaws), playing the gayageum (a traditional musical instrument), swinging on traditional Korean swings, doing laundry, ironing clothes using the dadeumi technique, or spinning tops. The artists also painted activities often depicted in traditional paintings, such as people playing baduk (a game known as Go in English), fishing, and chatting. On this plate, it appears the artist's intention was to portray South Korea's unique landscape through the image of two women washing clothes against a beautiful backdrop.
