On July 18, 1904, the Daehan Maeil Shinbo was founded by the British journalist Ernest Thomas Bethell and the Korean journalist Yang Ki-tak. At first, it was published as a six-page tabloid in both Korean and English. Later, separate Korean, Sino-Korean, and English editions (The Korea Daily News) were all published. The slogan associated with the Daehan Maeil Shinbo was, in short, “aggressive nationalism.”
