Founded in 1930, Daesun Distilling Co. is a leading local company in Busan. The company changed its name to Daesun Fermentation Co., Ltd. in 1949, before changing it again to Daesun Distilling Co., Ltd. in 1968. During the US military occupation from 1945–48, the US authorities restricted alcohol production licenses for fear of food shortages. However, President Syngman Rhee's government later introduced policies to promote the production of soju (a Korean liquor), in 1952, providing an opportunity for the industry to grow. The company prospered even during the Korean War because it was based in Busan, which was not affected. As a result, the company grew to be one of Busan's leading distilleries in the 1950s, producing popular brands such as Diamond Soju and Sinsaegae Cheongju. These bottles labeled Sinsaegae were a brand of soju produced by Daesun Fermentation.
