Glass is a mixture of chemicals and minerals. Some of them will cause glass to glow or fluoresce different colors. This paperweight contains uranium; when added to glass it is known as uranium glass or Vaseline glass. Uranium causes the glass to fluoresce a bright yellow-green under ultra-violet (UV) light.
