Dagger and Scabbard

19th century

The Khalili Collections

The Khalili Collections

An impressive number of precious daggers, often accompanied by their scabbards, made by Indian jewellers from the 17th century onwards survive. Like this piece, many are made in enamelled gold and inlaid with precious stones. The quality of the red enamel seen here, and the type of decoration, permit an attribution to Jaipur, the main production centre of enamels in 19th century India.
