SAYERS. 2.8.1938 RUSSIA LANE RENT STRIKE. O.P.S. Women pickets and banner bearers outside the flats where they are on a Rent strike in Russia Lane. WOMEN acted as pickets when hundreds of tenants in Quinn-square, Bethnal Green, E., one of the most densely populated areas of London, came out on a rent "strike " yesterday. Women in colourer paper caps with "Picket" across the front stood at the entrances to houses. Tenants allege that in some cases of controlled tenancies they are paying too much, that decontrolled premises are too dear, and that there is undue delay in making repairs.
