Goya introduces us to an enigmatic woman with deep black eyes, which together with her seriousness and the severity of her eyebrows, suggests to us the strength of her character. In his well-defined mouth you can make out a smile hinted at with ironic overtones.
The face is precisely the most significant part of the work, along with the soft glazes of color on the left forearm.
The direct expression of the eyes suggests that Goya maintained ties of friendship with the portrayed woman. Some authors want to see in it Leocadia Zorrilla de Weiss, Goya's housekeeper and companion in his later years.
