Danae and the Golden Rain

This painting depicts ‘Danae laying naked while Jupiter, transformed in golden rain, floods her womb’. Although it adheres to the themes of myth, it shows an investigation of a sentimental and emotional reality, which emerges from the revealing expression of the young woman whose anatomy and snow-white flesh testifies to a naturalistic rendering of the nude, which had softened the rigid conventional principles of the classical model.
