Shiavax Chavda graduated from the J.J. School of Art in Bombay in 1930. He studied at the Slade School in London and later in Paris, where he worked alongside Picasso on the design for the set of the Diaghilev Ballet.

He made vibrant figurative paintings and particularly liked to portray dancers, capturing all their movement and energy in his simple, intense strokes.
