She is putting on her heavy ankle bracelet, which forms a musical accompaniment to her dance. Jainism was founded in the 6th century B.C. by Vardhamana Mahavira. It is an austere religion similar to Buddhism, but Jain art incorporates many Hindu forms. This is one of few Jain works in the Dallas Museum of Art.
