We painted "Dangerous Freedom, Over Peaceful Slavery" with the intention of uplifting the Skid Row community through artistic inspiration and beautification. We created a collage of juxtaposed imagery that would speak to the experiences of the people living in the streets of the surrounding area, including patron saints next to a skeleton Virgin Mary, Rosary beads, birds, bees, landscape and cityscape, and graffiti lettering. The selected images were intended to transport people to another reality, while providing hope and reminders of our choices and the human ability to change and grow at any time in life. Ultimately it is a message of hope and personal agency, in the choices that we make for ourselves, which lead to Life Or Death. Photo : Jorge Sevilla
