A display at the Kansas Museum of history discussed how graves along the Oregon Trail were an unfortunate but not infrequent site. In place of doctors, wagon trains were equipped with medicine kits so travelers could self administer medication. Cholera ran rampant. This tombstone was created for a man from Kentucky named S.M. Marshall who succumbed to cholera on May 27,1849 while on the trail.
