With a round collar, a diagonal placket stretching from collar to the right side of waist, two side slits and two hoof sleeves, this robe made of dark red brocaded satin with a blue-juan lining is mainly decorated with four-claw dragons, known as “mang” in China, together with motifs of clouds and seamounts. Given that robes with five-claw dragons were exclusive to emperors and those of “mang” were allowed to be worn by court ministers, it is guessed that this piece was bestowed by the emperor to a high ranking official.
