“I started doing the Native Games when I was really young, and it encouraged me to keep going to school. I am headed to college in two months. I am going to UAF (University of Alaska Fairbanks) for heavy equipment. While I am there, I will try out for WEIO (World Eskimo Indian Olympics) if I can. My favorite Native game is the two-foot high kick. The highest I have kicked is 89 inches. I will be in Fairbanks for eight months to a year. After college, I want to maybe go to work in Bethel. More graduates from my high school are going to college than before. There are 11 of us going to college from my class.” — Darren Buzz is Yup’ik and lives in Tuluksak, Alaska.
