Christoph Marthaler returned to Peiraios 260 with Das Weinen (Das Wähnen), a surreal meditation on transience inspired by Dieter Roth’s absurdist texts. Set in an antiseptic pharmacy, five female employees navigate existential musings through poetic monologues and precise musical recitations. As a lone customer laments his difficulty swallowing, life itself unfolds as an endless list of side effects. Blending irony, music, and meticulous stagecraft, Marthaler crafted a poignant reflection on decay, imperfection, and the fleeting nature of human existence.
