Some of the largest pterosaurs ever to take to the skies arose toward the end of the era of flying reptiles, between 90 and 66 million years ago. Dawndraco kanzai—“Kansas dragon of the dawn”—was a long-winged, short-tailed, toothless creature and a close relative of Pteranodon longiceps. The animal soared over a seaway that covered the North American Great Plains.
