December Water, 1976

In photographing December Water, John Hilliard (b.1945) explains, the series: “...takes water as its element, and says water has three conditions: it exists as a solid, as a vapour and as a liquid... I found a place where it is co-present in those three states. And those states also happen to be white, black and grey... and so I was printing them to exaggerate the extreme tonalities.”
