Mariano Rubio Martínez (1926) In the seventies, the artist uses the city as the theme for his pictorial works and his engravings. He begins the series with a work entitled Calatayud surreal, a dreamlike vision of the city of his birth. Other cities, such as Toledo, Paris and Tarragona, would become the model for the artist. Mariano Rubio dedicates this painting to Tarragona, a painting which contrasts the cultural heritage of the city and it links with the chemical industry; both themes superimpose each other, while the legend Delenda est Tarraco defines, in the form of a premonition, a possible and impending future. 22nd Tapiró Painting Award, 1978 Art Biennial.
