Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris

On August 11, 2020, Democratic presidential candidate Biden named Harris as his running mate. She was the first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to be nominated for national office by a major party. She was the fourth woman to compete on a major party's presidential ticket.
