Demonstration of trimming timber with an axe

Smooth, almost planed-looking surfaces are created by using a broad axe. Such axes have curved blades up to 30 cm long. The technique of hewing logs or chopping wooden beams is rarely seen nowadays. From time to time, a craftsman in the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum shows how a beam is made from a tree trunk using a hatchet.
